Summary of the processThe WA Government is undertaking an assessment of the benefits and costs of the model Work Health and Safety (WHS) regulations and codes. To complete this assessment and provide unbiased analysis, the Government is using independent consultants – Marsden Jacob Associates (MJA) to obtain information on the impact of these proposed changes on you, your organisation and workers.
The changes that are planned implement an agreement between all states and the Commonwealth to bring occupational safety and health (OSH) into a uniform framework across Australia. The regulations and codes of practice you are being asked to examine and comment on are proposed to become law in Western Australia.
The Information and Issues Paper (available below) details the: - issues under consideration;
- analysis being undertaken; and
- methods for proving input.
All workplace participants are invited to provide comment between now and close of business Friday 12 October 2012, by
- completing the online survey;
- making a written submission; and/or
- attending a consultation session in a regional centre or in Perth.

Comparison table of definitions under the WA OSH Act and Model WHS Act (PDF - 152 Kb) Complete the online survey MJA has developed two versions of an online survey to collect information from all sectors of industry on the costs and benefits of the proposed changes to regulations and codes. The surveys ask for information about the likely impact the whole package of changes would have on your business or industry as well as specific changes in the regulations that WorkSafe WA have identified. In addition the survey allows respondents to identify other areas of concern.
Your participation in the surveys is voluntary and you can choose to discontinue the survey at any time. The answers you provide to the questions are important for all Western Australian businesses and your contribution will assist to determine whether the package of changes should be introduced in their current form.
Prior to commencing the surveys it is recommended that you read the Information and Issues Paper (discussed above).
The surveys for this review are now closed.
