The Australian Government have recently published a Regulation Impact Statement, titled ‘The  National phase out of PFOS’ which proposes a national approach to managing perfluorooctane sulfonic acid (PFOS) chemicals to minimise future emissions and abide by the globally accepted standards established by the Stockholm Convention.

The consultation options are informed by a cost-benefit analysis (CBA) undertaken by Marsden Jacob relating to ratification of amendments to list four chemicals on the Stockholm Convention, including PFOS. The information provided to the Australian Government drawn from Marsden Jacob’s CBA has better informed the Government to assist in taking action on the matter.
