The Commonwealth Department of the Environment, Water, Heritage and the Arts (DEWHA) has commissioned Marsden Jacob to undertake a Final Review of the Tasmanian Forest Conservation Fund, primarily involving a ‘reverse auction’ market-based instrument designed and implemented to conserve native vegetation values on private land through voluntary actions.

The Fund also involves an ongoing ‘Revolving Fund’ in which properties are purchased, a covenant placed on high conservation value areas, and then resold in the property market.  The review will assess the efficacy and efficiency of the Fund, and explore lessons and key learnings for future investments of this kind by the Commonwealth.
