The Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning (DELWP) has engaged Marsden Jacob Associates to estimate the economic costs of each stage of urban water restrictions in Victoria.

The project will move the Victorian water industry from a general understanding of the costs from imposing urban water restrictions to a position where those costs can be directly and practically incorporated into decision making frameworks by the Victorian water industry, such as Urban Water Supply Demand Strategies.

As part of the project Marsden Jacob is surveying Victorian water corporations and local government on how water restrictions were used in the last drought, the impacts on various community groups and customer segments, and how water restrictions might be used in the future.
