Upgrading road infrastructure for the dairy industry provides a key means to save the dairy industry millions of dollars in supply chain costs.  Using supply chain mapping of each dairy region in Australia, Marsden Jacob undertook the key analysis that identified the busiest corridors for freight transport which would have the best chance of providing a net benefit to the dairy industry if infrastructure upgrades were completed. This involved undertaking three case studies which estimated the potential benefits and costs of investing in upgraded infrastructure to improve productivity of dairy transport.

The mapping included all parts of the chain from farm through processor to end customer. A key finding of the investigation was that a shift towards larger and heavier Performance Based Standards  vehicle configurations for farm to processor transport offers the greatest efficiency opportunity.

Our analysis formed part of a broader Advantia review which can be found here with the summary report here.
