Lower Murray Water (LMW) has received approval to commence detailed design and construction of an expansion to its irrigation district that will provide water to around 8,000ha of new land.

Marsden Jacob Associates assisted LMW with the Business Case for Sunraysia Modernisation Project 2 (SMP2) and developed the commercial strategy that saw private sector irrigators contributing 50% of the capital costs of the expansion, which was a key criteria in order to be eligible for Commonwealth funding. The strategy also ensured that the capacity of the scheme matched contracted demand from irrigators through applying an innovative contracting framework for the first time in Victoria.

SMP2 has received $3m from the Commonwealth Government under the $520m National Water Infrastructure Development Fund (NWIDF), which is now fully committed.

Dr Joel Byrnes was MJA’s key advisor to the LMW project team and Peter Jacob provided strategic advice to the Project Control Group and LMW Board.
