Working in partnership with the University of Canberra and SGS Economics and Planning, Marsden Jacob led the analysis of the social, cultural and economic conditions of Murray-Darling Basin (MDB) communities, comparing them to conditions in the rest of regional Australia.
This work supported the Murray-Darling Basin Authority’s 2025 Sustainable Rivers Audit (SRA) and was a first for the audit – previous versions focused solely on the ecological conditions of the Basin.
Our report focused on deepening understanding of social and economic conditions through:
- Modelling and validating relationships between social and economic indicators.
- Analysing structural and other drivers of community change.
- Investigating water recovery across the MDB.
