In partnership with the Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water, Marsden Jacob led the Urban Ecosystem Services Project to apply urban ecosystem accounting – an evidence-based tool to guide sustainable investment in more resilient Australian cities.
With nearly 70% of Australians living in urban areas, and a high concentration of threatened species, this report explores how green and blue spaces contribute to climate regulation, health and liveability.
Key findings include:
- Urban heat could cost $1.78 billion annually by 2030.
- Expanding green and blue spaces could reduce that cost by up to 84%.
- Urban nature provides measurable value through cooling, air purification and wellbeing.
