shape the future wisely.

Do you want to help shape the future of Australia by positively influencing decisions in economics, public policy, regulation, and markets?

Do you want to be involved in rewarding and impactful work in Australia’s water, energy, environment, agriculture, earth resources, public and health policy, and transport sectors?

Are you looking for a role that provides the ability to work flexibly in a collaborative environment?

If yes, then this Consultant role with Marsden Jacob Associates could be for you.

Marsden Jacob is a boutique economic, public policy, markets, regulation, and strategy advisory practice.  We are a collaborative and values-based practice of trusted advisors, who operate on the merit of ideas, not rank.

Our team of 30+ professionals work on some of the most interesting and pressing microeconomic, policy, market, and strategy issues in Australia and overseas. We provide expert advice across the water, energy, environment, agriculture, earth resources, public and health policy, and transport sectors. We are a team of trusted advisors with senior industry expertise and strong networks.

We help our clients to shape the future wisely: to make informed decisions with confidence, backed by the best evidence and analysis, and a good dose of commercial nous. We are passionate about what we do, and the public value we help create.

Marsden Jacob has grown over two decades from a single Melbourne office with two staff to a diverse team of over 35 professionals working across Australia. We are continuously learning and developing as a firm as we draw from the experiences, knowledge, and expertise of our staff, clients, and networks. Our core principles and values include:

  • We talk straight and honestly. We engage in regular constructive, open and honest two-way communication throughout the firm and with our clients. We talk with empathy and respect, supporting a positive workplace.
  • We are highly collegiate and work on the merit of ideas and arguments, not rank.
  • We recognise, celebrate, and communicate our successes. We strive to develop a culture that recognises and communicates the good efforts of our team.
  • We make sustained, outcome-focused contributions to making Marsden Jacob a better place to work. We encourage staff to get in and create positive change by identifying opportunities and acting on them.
  • We’re owned by our staff, with around half our team now owning equity. That means we set our own path as a team and choose who we work with and the work we do, rather than having targets set by a head office somewhere else.

We build our workplace expectations around our staff because we get the best results when our team is supported and happy. We endeavour to cater to the needs of individuals and adapt as they change over the course of time, while ensuring we also build in the collaborative opportunities to work well as an overall team.

We provide staff the flexibility to work from any of our offices as a base, work their hours in a way that suits their lifestyle, and recognise the value of flexible workplace arrangements so that staff can combine working from home with their time in our offices. We offer part-time work arrangements and are happy to discuss other ways we can create the flexibility you need in your role at any stage.

We are committed to ensuring our people reflect our values and those of our partner clients. We know the value of a diverse team and the broader range of ideas and insights this brings to an organisation. We are building an organisation that supports inclusivity and greater gender parity. We support mentoring from senior women in and outside our organisation to females joining us.
