John brings a depth of experience in economic analysis and economic regulation. He has led numerous regulated pricing reviews from the perspective of a regulator and a regulated business.

Examples of his work include:

  • Regulatory pricing reviews including maximum prices for retail electricity and gas, solar feed-in tariffs, private ferries, site occupation charges for cruise ship terminals, and rural water prices.
  • Economic analysis including cost-benefit analysis for container deposit schemes and cost-effectiveness analysis of biodiversity conservation mechanisms.
  • Policy advice across industries including retail energy, coal seam gas, waste, Crown land, rural water and transport.

Before joining Marsden Jacob, John was a Director with the NSW Department of Planning, Industry & Environment. He was also previously Director, Pricing with the NSW Independent Pricing and Regulatory Tribunal. John has a Bachelor of Economics from Newcastle University, and a Graduate Certificate in Applied Finance and Master of Economics from Macquarie University. He is based in Newcastle but also works from the Sydney office.
