Makere approaches her analysis through application of economic theory and quantitative modelling, with a keen focus on the practical implications of her work.   • Economic modelling, using applied statistical and econometric techniques, data analytics and visualisation, including cost recovery and CGE modelling.
  • Economic analysis, including business case preparation, cost-benefit analysis, cost-effectiveness analysis, data analysis, within in a range of sectors for local government, private sector, federal government and state government.
  • Policy development, seeking out solutions to complex and embedded problems, with experience in environment, climate, and regional development policy.
  • Investment appraisal, focusing on assessment of needs, objectives, options and costs/benefits to give robust and clear advice.

Makere joined us from the New Zealand where she worked in various economic policy roles across the Government sector, including the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment and the New Zealand Treasury. Her work focused on macroeconomic and fiscal policy, including regional economic development and the government’s Transition to a Low Emissions Economy. Her work included analysis and modelling assessing the economic impact on regions, sectors, communities and households of efficiently transitioning to a low emissions economy. This work included developing linked emissions, household expenditure and CGE models. She also assisted in drafting the New Zealand Zero Carbon Bill, which led to establishing the Independent Climate Change Commission, setting the 2050 Net Zero Target under the Paris Agreement and reforming the New Zealand Emissions Trading Scheme.
