Consultant/Senior Consultant – Environmental Economics: Melbourne, Sydney or Perth

The role
Marsden Jacob is seeking a dynamic Consultant/Senior Consultant who is deeply passionate about resource and environmental economics and policy advisory. This position offers a unique opportunity to engage in some of Australia’s most significant and complex environmental projects. 

Applying your expertise in economic analysis to influence policy and program development, your work will directly impact environmental governance and the improved use of natural resources.

In your initial role, you will be involved in pivotal projects related to natural capital, water markets and agricultural commodities. At Marsden Jacob Associates, we support you in the development of your own professional path. You’ll have the opportunity to take the lead in your areas of interest, exploring and defining new opportunities and markets. 

What you will do

  • Conduct in-depth economic and policy analyses in the areas of water resource, environmental and resource economics.
  • Develop and advise on policies related to sustainable management of natural resources and environmental conservation.
  • Lead and assist project teams, ensuring the delivery of high-quality analysis and actionable insights.
  • Work alongside project teams to support project scoping and proposal development through project closure and invoicing. 
  • Engage with stakeholders, including government entities, to understand challenges and provide tailored economic solutions.
  • Contribute to the development of strategic environmental policies and frameworks.

What you bring

  • Advanced degree in Economics with a focus on environmental and resource economics.
  • 2-3+ years of experience (Consultant) or 5+ years (Senior Consultant). 
  • Strong analytical skills and framework thinking across environmental and resource economics, policy advisory or related consulting.
  • A passion for microeconomic issues, with particular emphasis on water and the environment.
  • Strong quantitative skills, with experience in cost-benefit analysis and economic modelling tools highly favourable (R or Stata).
  • Proven track record in managing and delivering complex projects.
  • Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex economic concepts to diverse audiences.
