Australia ratified the Minamata Convention on 7 December 2021.

The Minamata Convention on Mercury is an international treaty that seeks to protect human health and the environment from anthropogenic (caused by humans) emissions and releases of mercury and mercury compounds. Australia was one of the original signatories but hadn’t ratified the convention. The convention will come into effect in Australia on March 7, 2022.

Marsden Jacob is pleased to have supported the Australian Department of Agriculture, Water and the Environment to prepare the RIS, which the Office of Best Practice Regulation (OBPR) assessed as good practice.
